He and his family traveled in over 30
countries.
After retirement, he was nudged into writing
by his daughters, Stephanie and Katrina, who wanted a
record, of sorts, of the bedtime stories he told them in
their childhood. The nudge resulted in the novel “A Tale
of Two Brothers: A World and a War Apart.”
The story is based on true happenings of a
family in the
Ohio
farm country as they overcome numerous pitfalls during the
depression of the thirties and the adversities of the Second
World War. The story centers around Matt and Johnny, born
seven years apart. Johnny acts as a protector and mentor
during the thirties, but is forced to leave Matt to make his
own way through the upheavals brought on by the war. Johnny
becomes a Marine attached to the Second Marine Division as
they fight their way across the Pacific with tragic results.
The book is an outstanding read for middle and high school
students and anyone who lived through this period. It has
good humor, adventure, suspense and tragedy. It is definitely a
page turner and grabs you from the first page on.
Two additional books are now in the
works.
